Hello everyone! I am Ugnius Slibinas, hailing from an old and honorable family of dragons. Just recently, I discovered a hidden treasure in my parents' home – a pile of the most wonderful books. As I flipped through them, I became so fascinated that I learned to read! Do you like to read?
To me, every book is a true work of art. With my sharp claws, I carefully trace their pages – checking the strength of the paper or parchment. In the light of my flames, I admire the gilded edges of the books and the colorful illustrations. I curiously explore the letters of different alphabets – those little black tails – and their fonts. And when I get really carried away, I sometimes tug at the threads on the book's spine – did the bookbinder's needle fasten the pages of my book securely? After all, a good book must be both beautiful and durable!
I really love the smell of a new book – I just try not to sneeze, so I don't accidentally burn it. You see, my family was once famous for a successful book-burning business. Fortunately, times have changed, and now I protect books very carefully.
In this exhibition, you will learn how a good book is born: what materials it is made of, how it is printed, illustrated, and bound. You will discover that the history of books is very interesting. Did you know that in the past, books were rare and expensive? By reading carefully, you will discover what an ex-libris is – a special mark used by book lovers to label the books in their libraries.
You will visit the home of a true book enthusiast – bibliophile Kazys Varnelis. Throughout his life, he collected more than 9,500 books! You will see the most beautiful and interesting ones at the exhibition.
The exhibition opens on March 18, 2026, at 6:00 PM and will run until September 27, 2026.
