About the performers
PETRAS GENIUŠAS
Maestro Petras Geniušas is a piano virtuoso, laureate of the Lithuanian National Culture and Art Prize and international competitions, and a professor at the LMTA. Alongside his constant concert activity in Lithuania, P. Geniušas has gained international recognition with performances in over forty countries and at the world's most famous concert halls.
P. Geniušas stands out for his versatility of interests and constant, often experimental search for new forms of expression and unconventional musical and spiritual experiences. Having mastered a wide repertoire of classical, Romantic, and contemporary works, he gives recitals and performs as a soloist with Lithuanian symphony orchestras, various chamber ensembles, and conductors.
For his extensive concert and creative work, Petras Geniušas was awarded the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts (1992) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Prize (2004). In 2011, P. Geniušas was awarded the Ministry of Culture's badge of honor "Carry Your Light and Believe." In 2015, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas.
GEDIMINAS GELGOTAS
Gediminas Gelgotas is one of the most prominent contemporary Lithuanian composers, who has long since ceased to be limited to the younger generation of listeners. His music attracts a very diverse audience – from classical music gourmets to art lovers seeking innovation. Critics note the composer's exceptional and vivid musical language, based on the aesthetics of minimalism and contemporary multi-stylistic influences, combining the beauty of ascetic melody with an infectious rhythmic element. Gediminas Gelgotas' music has been performed in the most famous European concert halls and festivals for a decade.
In 2015, the composer was awarded the St. Christopher Award by the Vilnius Municipality and the Young Creator Prize by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania; in 2020, he received the highest award of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, "Carry Your Light and Believe."

The New Ideas Chamber Orchestra NIKO is a string ensemble founded in 2006 by composer and artistic director Gediminas Gelgotas, with the aim of expanding the boundaries of classical music and raising it to new heights. NIKO concerts have become a phenomenon, bringing together contemporary music lovers, innovation enthusiasts, and those who enjoy memorable musical experiences.
The NIKO ensemble features bright, talented musicians who have won awards as soloists in many international and national competitions: Augusta Zuokė (violin), Julija Andersson (violin), Dalia Simaška (violin, viola), Agata Ursul (violin), Iveta Janulytė (violin), Liudvikas Silickas (cello), Povilas Paukštė (cello), Augustinas Sokalski (cello), Gediminas Gelgotas (founder, composer, and artistic director).
The orchestra's active concert geography covers Europe, Asia, and North America. The ensemble actively represents Lithuania during important diplomatic and cultural events, receptions for monarchs and state delegations, and national award ceremonies. NIKO also performed during the visits of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Pope Francis to Lithuania, and performed for Her Excellency Queen Sonja of Norway. In recent years, they have debuted in prestigious concert halls such as the Zürich Tonhalle (2024), Grand Théâtre de Provence (2024), and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall (2023), and the new ensemble album "Consonance" (2024), released by Warner Classics, marks another significant leap in the ensemble's already impressive history.
