Following an extremely successful debut at the Music Magic Club, where the performers played to a full house during their very first appearance, "Duo Nida" returns with a new, intriguing program!
The mastery of flutist Miglė Astrauskaitė (France) and cellist Jordan Costard (France) has already been appreciated by audiences in Lithuania, France, and Germany, and their interpretations have earned high praise from French music critics. Having appeared on the prestigious French radio show Génération France Musique, "Duo Nida" also presented original compositions by M. Astrauskaitė.
The ensemble's latest program, "Today's Encounter with Bach," invites the listener into an uninterrupted dialogue between the past and the present. In the concert, the musical legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach – revealed through the Sonata for Flute in E minor and the Inventions – reflects the creativity of the 20th century and today.
You will hear the influence of the Baroque music genius in the work Bachianas brasileiras No. 6 by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos and in the opus Alemana Latina by Colombian composer G. Hoyos, where Bach's classical melodic music merges with lively jazz rhythms. The Lithuanian accent of the program will be created by the sensitive composition Vienatvė dviese (Loneliness for Two) by Arvydas Malcys, and the highly expressive piece Besikartojančios mintys (Recurring Thoughts) by M. Astrauskaitė, which will be performed in Lithuania for the first time, will reveal the full diversity of the instruments' sound. The program will be lyrically summarized by a suite by Japanese composer Yuko Uebayashi, written specifically for a flute and cello duet.
This concert, full of contrasts and colors, brings the listener back to the eternal work of Bach and reveals how fundamental Baroque structures continue to inspire today's creators.
This "Duo Nida" performance at the Music Magic Club is part of the "RE:TURN" project. The project is partially funded by the Vilnius City Municipality. Information partners: LRT, VilniusFM.lt.
RE:TURN is a project of the Music Magic Club designed to bring professional Lithuanian music performers who currently live abroad or have recently returned to Lithuania into the cultural orbit of Vilnius. These are musicians who often have significant achievements in the international arena and are well-known in other countries, but do not yet have enough opportunities to perform frequently in their homeland. This cycle aims to create conditions for them to take their rightful place among colleagues in Lithuanian musical life and earn the recognition of music lovers in the city of Vilnius.
