The characters created by our country's most popular children's author, Tomas Dirgėla – Domas and Tomas – step out from the pages of their books and invite children and their parents to meet them in the musical "Domas and Tomas: The Case of the Missing Characters." After each performance, the author of the books meets with children to take photos and sign books they have brought along.
The story of the musical tells of how the fearless young detectives decide to explore the world beyond the books – but upon embarking on a new adventure, the children fall into... a trap. How will Domas, Tomas, and Upė manage to defeat the villains this time?
The main characters are played by professional actors and singers – Simonas Storpirštis, Šarūnas Januškevičius, Oneida Kunsunga, Lina Rastokaitė, Tomas Žaibus, and Paulius Šinkūnas; we will also see the author of the incredible Domas and Tomas stories, Tomas Dirgėla, on stage.
Tomas Dirgėla worked on both sides of the new children's musical – both on stage and throughout the entire creative process.
"It is always fun to see not only the final result but also how it is achieved, starting from the script being written, the rehearsals, and ending with the role on stage and performing the musical on the stages of Lithuanian cities," he says. The writer adds that although works for the stage are not new to him, this time, while creating the script, he had to think not only about the usual dialogues but also about the songs. However, he enjoys doing that too – in his free time from writing, T. Dirgėla plays and sings with another writer friend.
The author, who has received the Children's Literature Prize, is convinced that the musical's team consists of true professionals. Such large projects have always seemed to him like something that takes a long time to get moving, but the preparation for the premiere of the "Domas and Tomas" musical is proceeding quickly and very smoothly.
"I am most happy about the team's trust: both in handing over the creation of the musical's script and songs to me, and in the offer for me to appear on stage myself. And when you receive such trust, a desire to do everything as well as you possibly can arises automatically."
For the musical "Domas and Tomas: The Case of the Missing Characters," produced by the music project agency "Pepper Live," the songs were created by the talented composer Faustas Venckus, who works with such popular Lithuanian artists as Jazzu, Mantas Jankavičius, Giedrė, and others. The musical is directed by Mantas Verbiejus – his list of works includes such pieces as the musical "Lituanika" and the children's plays "The Great Teleportation," "Happiness is a Fox," and others.
