The iconic Ukrainians "DakhaBrakha" return to Vilnius – they will present their new album "Ptakh"
On December 8, the iconic Ukrainian quartet "DakhaBrakha" will perform in Vilnius at the club "Kablys". The group is well-known to the Lithuanian public – they have performed in our country more than once, and this time they are returning with new music. In Vilnius, "DakhaBrakha" will present their latest album "Ptakh", inspired by Ukraine's resistance, strength, and freedom.
Ticket sales for the "DakhaBrakha" concert in Vilnius will begin on September 25 at 10:00 AM across the entire Bilietai.lt network. In advance, starting September 23, tickets will be available for purchase by subscribers of the "L Tips Agency" newsletter (registration here: https://ltips.lv/lt).
Formed at the Kyiv experimental theater "Dakh", "DakhaBrakha" is today one of the most prominent voices of contemporary Ukrainian culture. The group, which combines authentic Ukrainian folk songs with rhythms and instruments from different world cultures, has performed at the world's largest festivals – "Glastonbury", "Sziget", "Pohoda", "Bonnaroo", "Roskilde", "GlobalFEST" – and has held performances from Mexico to South Korea.
The creation of the new "DakhaBrakha" album "Ptakh" ("Bird") took several years. The songs on the album were inspired by Ukraine's resistance, Ukrainian strength and the ability to not break, as well as the support of people all over the world. The bird in the album becomes a symbol of freedom and the strong voice of Ukraine. "Ptakh" is already available to listen to on all major music platforms.
"DakhaBrakha" calls their music "ethno-chaos". Its foundation is Ukrainian folklore, which the group combines with music from different cultures, modern sounds, and unexpected rhythms. In search of an authentic sound, the musicians traveled across Ukraine for many years, collected old songs, studied archives, and delved into folk music traditions. No less important a part of "DakhaBrakha" concerts is theater and strong visual expression, which complements the musical world created on stage.
The Vilnius concert will feature the audience favorite "Sho z-pod duba", the hypnotic "Vesna", and "Ptakh", the lyrics for which were written by the well-known Ukrainian writer Serhiy Zhadan. One of the most sensitive moments of the program is "Plyve Choven" – a piece dedicated to the defenders of Ukraine and those who will not return home from the war.
With the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the meaning of the group's concerts has also changed. "It seems that we are speaking to the world on behalf of the entire country," says group member Marko Halanevych. "We thank you for your support, we ask for what Ukraine needs to survive, and we share our pain. At the same time, we show at least a small part of our rich culture and thus challenge the propaganda about 'one nation'."
"DakhaBrakha" concerts are accompanied by an impressive video art program, which also includes works by Ukrainian artists. On stage, ancient Ukrainian traditions, modern sound, and the voice of a country fighting for its freedom meet.
On December 8 in Vilnius, at the club "Kablys", "DakhaBrakha" will once again remind us why this group's music is worth experiencing live.
