Can a forest become a sanctuary? In the music of Čiurlionis – yes. In this concert, his symphonic poem "In the Forest" will find itself surrounded by unexpected French organ music – amidst the restless "Litanies" by Jehan Alain, a musical dedication by Maurice Duruflé, and the majestic finale of Louis Vierne's Symphony No. 6. In this context, the forest of Čiurlionis will reveal itself not as a picture of nature, but as a mysterious inner space where silence, anxiety, and a sense of infinity intertwine.
This exceptional program has been prepared by Karolina Juodelytė, the 1st prize winner of the 2011 International M. K. Čiurlionis Pianist and Organist Competition and recipient of six special prizes (including for the best performance of Čiurlionis' works and a fugue). In her hands, the organ of St. Casimir's Church will become a full orchestra, capable of conveying the quiet breathing of the forest, the tension of prayer, and the triumphant power of the finale.
