On Friday, August 21, at 6:00 PM, the LDS gallery "Arka" invites you to the opening of an exceptional exhibition – Baltic Contemporary Glass Art. The exhibition features 25 artists from Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. This exhibition was held in 2025 at the Riga Museum of Decorative Arts and Design and was voted the most visited exhibition of the year in Latvia. The exhibition is scheduled to continue in Estonia in 2027 and in Japan in 2029.
This is one of the rare occasions where a group exhibition allows one to see the work of glass artists currently working in the Baltic states, which have different experiences and art trends. The works presented in the exhibition are connected by a metaphorical and physical common denominator of layering, through which the fragility of glass sharpens its capriciousness and unpredictability. The exhibition presents artistic glass objects, sculptures, and installations created using various techniques, with special attention paid to materiality and the unique properties of glass.
The exhibition seeks to reveal the multi-layered nature, dynamics, and craftsmanship of art that incorporates glass today, to record and present the shifts in contemporary glass art that strengthen the suggestive power of experiencing a work, while rethinking the connections between technology, visuality, and conceptuality that are relevant to the present day.
