October 27, 19:00 | Vilnius | St. Catherine's Church
Antonio Forcione, the Italian guitarist and composer internationally recognized as one of the most original masters of the contemporary acoustic guitar, is coming to Vilnius.
Having grown up musically in the Mediterranean region and having been one of the most prominent performers on the international scene for many years, Forcione has created an exceptional, deeply personal musical language throughout his career. In it, his Italian roots naturally merge with the influences of various world cultures and traditions.
It is from this musical journey that "Sketches of the World" was born.
In this musical program, Forcione travels with his guitar through the Mediterranean, Africa, Brazil, Cuba, and other corners of the world. The rhythms, colors, and moods of different cultures meet in his original compositions and improvisations, where he is constantly searching for new sonic possibilities without ever losing his musical identity.
In Forcione's hands, the guitar reveals a different side of itself each time – it becomes a melodic, rhythmic, or even percussive instrument, and sometimes sounds like an entire small orchestra. However, technique and virtuosity are never an end in themselves for him, but merely a means to tell a story, convey an emotion, and establish a direct connection with the audience.
His music is born at the intersection of jazz and world music, where composition meets improvisation, tradition meets modernity, and the different cultures and human experiences meet with the universal language of music.
Throughout his career, Forcione has played and collaborated with artists such as Charlie Haden, Bobby McFerrin, Phil Collins, Van Morrison, Angélique Kidjo, Pino Daniele, Zucchero, Trilok Gurtu, and Diego El Cigala. He has presented his music at the largest international festivals and theaters.
The Guardian calls Forcione "one of the great acoustic guitarists," and The Times described his music in three words: "passion, grace and fire."
On stage, the musician creates free, spontaneous, and unpredictable music. Improvisation and the energy of the moment can steer each concert in a completely unexpected direction, which is why no two performances are ever exactly the same.
"Sketches of the World" is not just a guitar concert. It is a musical and human journey through places, memories, and different cultures, in search of what connects us.
On October 27 at 7:00 PM at St. Catherine's Church, Antonio Forcione will invite the audience to embark on this journey together.
The concert will ceremoniously open the program of events dedicated to the XXVI World Week of the Italian Language.
