About this event

This autumn, a special musical event awaits the Lithuanian audience – a unique opportunity to see two exceptional musical personalities in one evening. On October 24, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by the renowned French conductor, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, Sylvain Cambreling. The concert soloist is the world-renowned Norwegian violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing. The concert will take place at the LVSO Concert Hall.

Sylvain Cambreling has dedicated his career spanning over five decades to symphonic music and opera, earning an exceptional reputation as a masterful interpreter of contemporary music and a conductor with a broad artistic horizon. The conductor himself describes his artistic spectrum as – "from Monteverdi to tomorrow".

S. Cambreling has conducted at the world's most important opera stages – the Metropolitan Opera in New York, La Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera, the English National Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Paris National Opera, and La Monnaie in Brussels, and has also served as Artistic Director and General Music Director of the Frankfurt Opera. He is also regularly invited to conduct the world's most famous orchestras, including the Vienna, Berlin, Munich, and Oslo Philharmonic orchestras, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the San Francisco and Montreal Symphony orchestras.

S. Cambreling is also always welcome at the most prestigious festivals: on the stages of the Lucerne, Salzburg, and Vienna festivals, the Ruhrtriennale, and the Glyndebourne Opera Festival, he has consistently expanded his repertoire, conducting both classical and 20th–21st-century masterpieces. His interpretations are valued for their transparency, precision, and deep emotional impact, and his original concert programs are characterized by a skillfully combined diversity from Baroque to contemporary music. Since 2018, S. Cambreling has been the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra.

Performing as the soloist in this concert is one of today's most prominent violinists – the Norwegian Eldbjørg Hemsing, whose sensitive musicality, exceptional lyricism, and breathtaking virtuosity have earned international acclaim from critics and audiences alike. "Klassik-Talente" called her "the new queen of the violin," and "Broadway World" wrote about her performances: "When Hemsing plays, it feels as if time stands still."

The violinist performs in the world's most prestigious halls – New York's Lincoln Center, London's Wigmore Hall, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, and has also played at the Nobel Peace Prize concert in Oslo. She actively collaborates with today's most famous composers, including Tan Dun, Anders Hillborg, Alexandre Desplat, and other renowned creators. Hemsing's creative work is not limited to concert halls – her playing can also be heard in films and series. Hemsing's violin is featured on the soundtrack of the Netflix film "Frankenstein," and the performer also played in one of the most popular series of recent years, "Bridgerton."

Having an exclusive recording contract with Sony Classical, Eldbjørg Hemsing combines masterpieces of the classical repertoire and contemporary works in her albums, paying significant attention to the dissemination of Nordic music worldwide. Her discography includes the albums "Grieg Violin Sonatas," "Arctic," and "Colors of Bach," and her latest recording is "Hillborg: Violin Concerto No. 2 / Liquid Marble," recorded together with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Playing on a legendary 1707 "Rivaz Baron Gutmann Stradivarius" violin, Hemsing's performances and recordings are distinguished by artistic vision, depth, and originality. The magazine "The Strad" described her performance as "a wonderful combination of purity and a fierce temperament reminiscent of Heifetz's intensity," and "Variety" wrote about the violinist: "She produces a pure sound. She doesn't play romantically – she plays wonderfully." Alongside her intense concert activity, Eldbjørg Hemsing actively participates in cultural diplomacy initiatives and supports the younger generation of musicians, representing Norwegian culture in the international arena.
