A traditional autumn event, the contemporary music festival "Iš Arti," presents six events from November 10–21 that reveal the field of contemporary music – from reflections on modernist tradition to new stage forms, allowing listeners to experience the diverse world of contemporary music.
On November 18, "True Stories" will be performed – these are musical narratives by 21st-century composers about the world, experiences, and feelings, where personal memory and collective imagination intertwine.
Kaunas Piano Trio, together with musicologist Viktoras Gerulaitis, presents four different narratives.
Giovanni Sollima's "Short Trio Stories" is a cycle of stylistic miniatures featuring diverse character figures from Leonardo da Vinci to the mysterious Ludwig van Beethoven, intertwined with Gypsy intonations and a recontextualized echo of Domenico Scarlatti. Giya Kancheli's piano trio "Middelheim" is a contemplative, emotional tribute born from personal experience and gratitude for a life saved, dedicated to the doctors at Middelheim Hospital in Antwerp, Belgium, where the composer received life-saving treatment in the winter of 2016. Anatolijus Šenderovas's "Song and Dance" is an intonational and ritualistic reflection on identity, the constant human striving to remain oneself and tell one's authentic stories; the work subtly weaves archaic motifs with contemporary musical language, creating emotional and meaningful complexity.
The source of inspiration for Zita Bružaitė's work "The Magic Mountain" is Thomas Mann's philosophical novel. In this small miniature, as in the writer's novel, external calm hides internal tensions. While listening to the music, one can imagine a majestic Alpine landscape or one's own mountains that appear in our lives and with which we remain or which we leave... even if with great difficulty...
The "True Stories" program will stand out for its variety of different sound colors and the complex sound of the ensemble, and the evening will be subtly complemented by the insights and stories of musicologist V. Gerulaitis, which will help to better understand the works and provide an unforgettable experience.
