Translucens

The group porcelain exhibition "Translucens" (curated by Giedra Petkevičiūtė and Remigijus Sederevičius) opens on September 11 at 5:00 PM at the Lithuanian Artists' Association Kaunas Division gallery "Drobė" (Drobės St. 62-308, Kaunas). This exhibition aims to take a deeper look at porcelain, exploring the properties and conceptual forms of expression of this material. The Latin word "Translucens" means "transmitting light." Due to its unique chemical composition and firing process, porcelain is characterized by exceptional light transmission. The exhibition invites artists to explore and interpret the concept of translucency through the prism of porcelain as a medium. Translucency is not only the physical property of porcelain to transmit light, but also a metaphorical idea speaking of transparency, transformation, mystery, fragility, and the processes of revelation. The exhibition seeks to reveal various interpretations of this theme, combining different perspectives of creators and innovative artistic expressions. The exhibition, centered on porcelain, presents works by 25 authors, including pieces created specifically for this exhibition and works created in recent years. Ceramic artists from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, Poland, and Turkey are participating in the exhibition. This exhibition is a kind of continuation of the porcelain symposiums held in Kaunas and an attempt to take a fresh look at porcelain art in our region. It actualizes a direct connection with the history of Kaunas porcelain, while simultaneously opening space for contemporary themes, different creative practices, and technological innovations. In the exhibition, porcelain is presented not only as a traditional ceramic material but also as a means of contemporary artistic expression, allowing artists to search for new forms, ideas, and relationships with the material.
