Kaunas Archcathedral Basilica, like the Kaunas Old Town, tells us its 600-year history.
This one of the largest Gothic sanctuaries in Lithuania has preserved features of various eras: it is both modest Gothic on the outside and "dancing" Baroque on the inside.
Bishop Motiejus Valančius jokingly called the cathedral a "unicorn cow" (due to the single remaining tower). The beginning of the construction of this sanctuary is associated with 1408, when Kaunas was granted the Magdeburg rights privilege.
Well, the sanctuary "donned" its Baroque interior in 1771, when the last King of Poland and Lithuania, Stanisław Poniatowski, provided a 40,000-gulden endowment for the renovation of the church.
Saints and clergy, brotherhoods and artists, works of art and architectural solutions.
Start of the tour - 3:30 PM at the entrance to the archcathedral.
