"Textile as Sculpture" – creative workshop at the "Post-abstraction" exhibition

On September 12 and 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM, the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art (V. Putvinskio St. 55, Kaunas) invites you to the creative workshop "Textile as Sculpture" with textile artist Rasma Noreikytė at the "Post-abstraction" exhibition. We will begin the workshop with the question: "What can I do with this thread?" We will use Barbara Kasten's method: "What happens if I don't let the material be what it usually is?" We will observe how material can create space and change it. We will explore what we can do with textiles by creating our own shapes, structures, and constructions. We will get acquainted with the basic principles of weaving – warp, weft, and interlacing – and look for ways to give the fabric form. In short, we will dive into experimentation and "converse" with the material: we will braid, stretch, loosen, twist, perhaps tear, tie, layer, and finally hang it in space. Or perhaps we will create... emptiness? Duration: 2 hours. Places are limited, so we invite you to register in advance by phone at +370 684 84388.
