Being with people.” – an excerpt from Lucas Hnath’s play “A Doll’s House, Part 2”. “A Doll’s House, Part 2” is a contemporary reflection on a woman’s place in society, continuing the narrative started by the 19th-century Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen and moving it into the field of 21st-century value conflicts. Based on Lucas Hnath’s play, the work continues Nora’s story begun in “A Doll’s House” – fifteen years after her radical decision to leave her family, she returns to her former home as an independent, financially self-sufficient, and ideologically committed woman. Does a woman’s liberation inevitably mean the collapse of traditional structures? About the director: Agnius Jankevičius (b. 1979) is a director who has created dozens of plays on various Lithuanian theater stages. The director has won a “Golden Stage Cross” for directing the play “Isadora” (Operomanija / Arts Printing House) and has been nominated for this award multiple times. A. Jankevičius’s plays often explore complex themes of human identity, social norms, and internal conflicts. About the author: Lucas Hnath (b. 1979) is a contemporary American playwright whose work explores themes of morality, faith, freedom, and the consequences of human choices. Hnath gained international recognition for his play “A Doll’s House, Part 2”, in which he actualizes issues of women’s status and feminism in the modern world. In 2017, this play was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play. Attention: the play is marked with an N-16 age restriction. The play is a co-production of VšĮ “Mens Publica” and Kaunas City Chamber Theatre. The play is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and Kaunas City Municipality.
