Readings of works by participants of the Šeteniai Symposium in Kaunas

The Šeteniai Symposium is coming to Kaunas! 📚 On the evening of September 25, Lithuanian and Ukrainian authors will meet at the Kaunas Artists' House – Ostap Slyvynsky, Halyna Kruk, Mantas Adomėnas, Rostyslav Kuzyk, and Gražina Kelmelytė. The readings and conversation will be moderated by literary scholar and head of the Kaunas Literature Week festival, Rūta Eidukevičienė.

These readings in Kaunas are part of the first Šeteniai Symposium, "Writing in Dark Times: Central European Literature Today." From September 22–26, writers, poets, critics, and literary researchers from Lithuania, Ukraine, and Poland will gather in Czesław Miłosz's birthplace, Šeteniai, to discuss what literature can do when history darkens again: how it bears witness to war and historical turning points, preserves memory, and helps maintain a sense of community and freedom.

On Friday evening, some of the symposium participants will share their work and thoughts with the Kaunas audience. The creative readings will take place in the authors' native languages with Lithuanian translations, and the conversation will be in English with translation into Lithuanian.
