Book presentation and discussion with Romualdas Požerskis, accompanying the photography exhibition "On the Road" On Wednesday, September 23, at 5:30 PM, the VMU Art Gallery "101" (Muitinės St. 7, Kaunas) will host a book presentation and discussion with photo artist and VMU Faculty of Arts professor Romualdas Požerskis, accompanying the retrospective photography exhibition "On the Road," dedicated to his 75th birthday. As R. Požerskis notes, his life and creative path continue from exhibitions to books. Alongside his very active exhibition schedule both in Lithuania and abroad, the photo artist has already published more than 15 books and albums, and it would be difficult to count the publications in which R. Požerskis' photographs have been featured. During the presentation-discussion, we will review his creative journey, given meaning through his numerous publications, including the latest album, "On the Road." The creative debut of Romualdas Požerskis, a professor at the Department of Contemporary Arts of the VMU Faculty of Arts, took place while he was studying at the Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (now Kaunas University of Technology), where in 1973, together with his fellow student Virgilijus Šonta (1952–1992), who later also became a well-known photographer, Požerskis held his first exhibition. Today, Požerskis is one of the most prominent Lithuanian photographers, representing the Lithuanian school of photography. The author's works are now not only considered classics of Lithuanian photography but are also valued in the international context of creative photography. Furthermore, Požerskis' work is significant not only in art but also in a broader cultural context. Over more than five decades of creative activity, Požerskis has formed a distinct and widely recognizable humanistic worldview and an image of Lithuanian national identity in his photographs. The works exhibited at the VMU Art Gallery "101" represent Požerskis' long-standing and diverse body of work. The exhibition allows visitors to get acquainted with different examples of the professor's work: humanistic, documentary, social, and landscape photography. Požerskis' photography cycles from different periods and themes are also characterized by stylistic diversity: from reportage-style shots to staged frames, from classic black-and-white photography to vivid color narratives from travels in foreign countries. On one hand, this demonstrates an unfading passion for photography, constant searching, and the ability to change and discover new creative possibilities. On the other hand, the exhibition confirms that all of Požerskis' works, despite the variety of genres and styles, are united by the humanistic values that form the core of his work – attention to the human being, their nature, and universal experiences.
