About this event

What does a painting tell me, what do the symbols and metaphors visible in a work of art mean? What does this say about me? The M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art (V. Putvinskio g. 55, Kaunas) invites you from October 8, 2026, to a newly forming permanent adult art therapy group with art therapist and existential psychotherapy practitioner Sigita Stabinskė. The art therapy cycle "Journey into Yourself," which begins on October 8, will consist of 15 group therapy sessions. Meetings will take place once a week starting at 5:00 PM. The group is closed (only 10 registered individuals). Members of the art therapy group, upon encountering paintings, artworks, or objects by M. K. Čiurlionis or other artists, will delve into their own experiences, feelings, and emotions. Using interpretations, insights, and metaphors, they will share, draw, or express their creative visions in other ways. Art therapy at the museum is based on theoretical knowledge and the art therapist's many years of practice working with both adult groups and individuals. During the sessions, art therapy methods and therapeutic exercises are applied, group dynamics are observed, a therapeutic relationship is built, and interaction between group members is supported. Each session has a specific theme, and the art therapy process concludes with reflection – a discussion of the works created by the group and the experiences had. What will you discover here for yourself? New knowledge, personal and group insights, the joy of creativity, your own and the group's experiences, and support. "My goal when working with individuals is the discovery and 'awakening' of their resources, creativity, and the empowerment of their authenticity and uniqueness. I learn in order to share with you. My heart rejoices when, after completing the entire cycle, I see how group participants open up, become freer, or become calmer, more relaxed, and more creative. I see that by 'journeying into themselves' through existential themes, people discover community and the joy of sharing feelings and thoughts," says art therapist Sigita. Sigita Stabinskė is one of the pioneers of the art therapy profession in Lithuania; she integrates other complementary techniques, approaches, and exercises into the art therapy process, such as music, visualization, writing, and storytelling. Art therapy is based on theoretical knowledge and the art therapist's many years of practice working with adult groups and individuals. Session times: October 8, 15, 22, 29 – 5:00 PM November 5, 12, 19, 26 – 5:00 PM December 3, 10, 17 – 5:00 PM January 7, 14, 21, 28 – 5:00 PM Session duration: 3 hours. All materials needed for therapy will be provided upon arrival. Payment: the price of one session is 20 EUR. A 50% discount applies to students, seniors, and persons with disabilities. Partial payment is possible – the first installment upon registration (half of the total amount for 15 sessions: 150 EUR / 75 EUR), the second installment (the remaining part) must be paid by October 8. The number of places in the group is limited, so we invite you to register in advance by phone at (on weekdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM) or by email at A spot is reserved upon payment of the first installment or the full amount for the course. Note: due to psychotherapy rules, members of the same family, relatives, or friends cannot participate in the group.
