Have you ever felt childhood slipping away, even though the winds still blow in your heart? "Peter Pan" is a fairy tale for adults, but not necessarily for those who feel like it. Imagine: a strange boy keeps flickering before Wendy's eyes. He visits like a whisper – soft as a spring breeze, distant as a mirage. And when Peter finally appears in all his essence – playful, carefree, full of secrets – the girl receives an offer that her adventure-seeking heart cannot resist. "In the play, the relationship between Wendy and Peter becomes important, as two opposites who have fallen in love with each other. Using this love story, we explore the fragile line between living in a dream world of one's own creation and the dangers that threaten if one stays there too long. 'Peter Pan' is a story about a boy who wanted to fly forever, and a girl who longed to catch him," says director Karolis Zajauskas, presenting the idea of the play. Caught up in endless adventures in Neverland, the children do not even suspect that time – the quietest and most patient enemy of happiness – is keeping its sneaky eyes on them. It watches, waiting patiently like a crocodile above the water, and by its very threatening presence nearby, silently reminds us that nothing can last forever. Director Karolis Zajauskas's sketch "Peter Pan" won the sketch competition at the international youth theater festival "Išeities taškas" in 2023. About the novel: The main character of the fairy tale "Peter Pan" is a boy who, at seven days old, flew out the window into Kensington Gardens in London. After playing with fairies for a long time and later deciding to return home, he found all the windows closed. It was at that moment that he made the decision to remain in the world of fairy tales forever, and at the same time, it meant a decision to never grow up. The character's name is derived from the ancient Greek god Pan, who was half-goat, half-human. Pan was the god of mischief, which is undoubtedly reflected in Peter Pan's character. About the author: James Matthew Barrie (1860–1937) was a Scottish-born writer and playwright who grew up in a large, poor working-class family. Despite difficult living conditions, the family bond was incredibly strong, especially with his mother, who had lost a son, the writer's brother, while J. M. Barrie was still young. It is this loss that is interpreted as the essential impulse that, thirty years later, led to the creation of his most famous work, "Peter Pan." Barrie's works are full of imagination, wonder, and a playful spirit, often exploring themes of loss, love, and magical childhood. About the director: Karolis Zajauskas is a director debuting on the professional stage. While studying, he became a laureate of the Spoleto Festival "Festival dei Due Mondi" (Italy) after presenting the play "The Tell-Tale Heart" based on Edgar Allan Poe's short story with actors. In 2023, he completed his bachelor's degree in directing (supervised by Gintaras Varnas) with a thesis work based on Sarah Kane's "Cleansed" (Arts Printing House). That same year, he won the sketch competition at the international youth theater festival "Išeities taškas" with the work "Peter Pan."
