The five Metamorphoses are the first five pieces of Ph. Glass's "Solo piano" cycle. Their title is a reference to the 1915 novella "The Metamorphosis" by Franz Kafka, as the cycle was inspired by it. All five pieces were written in 1988, but some were intended for the production of the play "Metamorphosis," while others were for the 1988 documentary film "The Thin Blue Line," directed by Errol Morris, which tells the story of Randall Adams, who was sentenced to life in prison for a murder he did not commit.
