Every Lithuanian should mark this date in red in advance: our soprano Vida Miknevičiūtė is making her debut on one of the world's most prestigious opera stages. True, her actual debut will take place on December 31st of this year, and in total, V. Miknevičiūtė will sing in 9 performances, one of which will be broadcast to the whole world. She has been entrusted with the lead role of the beautiful saloon owner Minnie, and the part of her lover, Dick Johnson, or more accurately, the "dangerous criminal" Ramerrez, will be performed by South Korean tenor SeokJong Baek.
A new version of "La fanciulla del West" is being directed by the famous British director Richard Jones, and this is the first completely new production of this Wild West work at the Metropolitan Opera in over 30 years. By the way, the world premiere of this G. Puccini opera took place on December 10, 1910, at the Metropolitan Opera House itself. At that time, the lead roles were sung by Emmy Destinn and Enrico Caruso, and the premiere was conducted by the legendary Arturo Toscanini.
