Breaking news – the last dance for freedom?

"Breaking news – the last dance for freedom?" is a performative one-act attempt by playwright, actress, and performance artist Kristina Marija Kulinič to reflect the spirit of today's era using the biblical archetype of Salome. Salome, still a teenager, having captivated her stepfather with her dance, and encouraged by her mother, asks for the head of John the Baptist to be brought to her on a silver platter. This story has fueled the imaginations of artists for many years; the most famous and established interpretation of the story is Oscar Wilde's play "Salome," in which the girl becomes a symbol of impossible/rejected love, passion, and a certain shadow side of a woman. In "Breaking news," Kulinič seeks a different perspective and invites us to explore what and who today's Salome could be. Immersing herself in themes of loneliness and a crisis of truth, Kulinič invites us to meet a Salome tormented by the (mis)perception of reality, desperately seeking connection, and attempting to break free. About the author: Kristina Marija Kulinič is a playwright, actress, and director of the younger generation, whose plays have been staged in Lithuania (dir. Gildas Aleksa, Artūras Areima, Ieva Jackevičiūtė) and at the Latvian National Theatre (dir. Artūras Areima). Attention: the performance is marked with an N-16 age restriction.
