Square piece of polyethylene film (medium transparency) – 50×50 cm. Adhesive tape (waterproof) – about 8 meters. Wire – about 2 meters. Utility knife (tool). Any corrugated cardboard box with a base of 1×1 m and a height of about 1 m 30 cm is suitable. From a practical point of view, the best standard packaging box is usually called a "square" box. "The Box Man" is a visual theatre sketch inspired by the novel of the same name by Japanese writer Kobo Abe. It is a surreal story about a man who one day gives up his ordinary life and chooses to hide in a cardboard box. The box here becomes more than a physical shelter – it turns into a body, a mask, an observation device, and a voluntary prison, allowing one to withdraw from the world and at the same time take a fresh look at oneself. The piece explores dissociation and the disintegration of identity – a state where a person, influenced by the pressures of everyday life, information overload, social roles, and the constant need to adapt, gradually detaches from themselves. Most of us live by performing functions: we work, talk, react, move, but sometimes we become mere observers of our own lives. The box becomes a metaphor for this state – a place where one can hide from the world, but also disappear within it. The play does not seek to diagnose or explain this state – rather, it invites you to recognize yourself in it. It is an attempt to look at what often remains invisible: emotional fatigue, inner detachment, the desire to hide, and at the same time, the paradoxical desire to be noticed.
