The traditional autumn event – the contemporary music festival "Iš Arti" presents six events from November 10th to 21st, revealing the field of contemporary music – from reflections on the modernist tradition to new stage forms, which will allow listeners to experience the diverse world of contemporary music.
In the festival's opening concert, in collaboration with the visual theatre "Kosmos theatre", the performative project – the premiere "I Haven't Heard It Said" – is presented.
This is a contemporary music and media work that develops a dialogue between two pianos (one of them – a mechanized Disklavier, supplemented with interactive technologies). A situation is created where authority and fragility, control and its loss, individual expression and the fear of disappearing into information noise collide.
Although the Disklavier piano was created around 1990, its operation is often reduced to a banal instrument for restaurants or hotel lobbies that does not require musicians. In this work, the Disklavier is moved into a critical context, where it reveals itself as an early example of current technological transformations – situations in which the human role is gradually pushed into the position of a passive observer.
Different means of expression are used for the dramaturgy of the work – video art, electronics, engineering and robotics, stage movement, and choreography. Developed through interdisciplinary collaboration practices, the work "I Haven't Heard It Said" fragmentarily reflects the history of piano art – from the virtuoso tradition to creative practices where this instrument becomes an object of deconstruction and criticism: the works of A. Lockwood, Arman, Y. Yamashita, J. Mačiūnas, S. Heck, and R. Castellucci are rethought. This trajectory reveals the piano as a carrier of cultural memory, while simultaneously highlighting the stagnation of tradition and the tension it creates in the present.
