The traditional autumn event, the contemporary music festival "Iš Arti", presents six events from November 10th to 21st, revealing the field of contemporary music – from reflections on the modernist tradition to new stage forms, which will allow listeners to experience the diverse world of contemporary music.
In the festival's opening concert, in collaboration with the visual theatre "Kosmos theatre", a performative project is presented – the premiere "Negirdėjau sakant".
"When you think about virtuosity or mastery, you expect a perfect performance from a machine. However, in reality, both humans and machines make mistakes, and the line between them is not as clear as it might seem," says the concert performer, pianist Julija Bagdonavičiūtė, while introducing the program.
Isn't the piano a wonderful instrument? Alongside its exceptional role in the history of classical music, it is accompanied by a long tradition of virtuosity and a certain musical prestige. Nevertheless, "Negirdėjau sakant" opens up a completely different reality: a live-playing pianist and an autonomously operating Disklavier piano meet on stage. They interact, but their dialogue begins to resemble a toxic relationship: as the pianist searches for new performance possibilities and tries to break free, the machine keeps pulling her back into the past. Their dialogue eventually turns into a joyful, almost ecstatic struggle between human and machine.
"Our inability, and that of machines, to communicate leads to a schizophrenic planet; we are losing a real connection with the world. But I don't know if it's dangerous. After all, I am also living along with these trends. I use artificial intelligence. In this project as well...", says composer Pierre Jodlowski, introducing his latest work.
