What if Manuel de Falla's music were composed today, in the 21st century, by a musician free from stylistic limitations, yet deeply respectful of tradition? This question became the starting point for the project "FALLA Imaginado" – a sound journey conceived by Moisés P. Sánchez, one of the most prominent music creators on the European music scene. This pianist, composer, and arranger invites us to rediscover the legacy of the great Andalusian composer, whose 150th birth anniversary is celebrated this year, through a contemporary, refined, and contrasting prism.
In this project, M. de Falla's music is treated as living, flexible material, open to new discovery through a modern approach, drawing inspiration from jazz, rock, classical music, and harmonic innovations. Original works become the basis for new interpretations, where harmonic and structural solutions enrich the sound palette. Well-known works such as "La vida breve," "Seven Spanish Folksongs," or "El Amor Brujo" share space with lesser-known pieces such as "Nocturne," "Mazurka," or "Fantasia Bætica." Improvisation plays a key role in these works, becoming not an ornament, but a natural continuation of the score, as if the piece were being composed here and now. It is in this space that the music expands and breathes, establishing a real-time dialogue with the spirit of M. de Falla.
The program also features the premiere of a new work, "Suite Imaginada," revealing an original perspective influenced by M. de Falla's Spanish roots, French impressionism, and Igor Stravinsky.
M. P. Sánchez plays in an ensemble with two internationally acclaimed artists: violinist Ana María Valderrama and double bassist Pablo Martín Caminero. Together, they form a uniquely universal trio, combining their talents in a program that is both respectful and unexpectedly free.
"FALLA Imaginado" is an open exploration, an invitation to imagine new ways of listening to and experiencing music that is constantly alive and changing.
