Curator-led tour with Remigijus Sederevičius of the porcelain exhibition "Translucens"

The Lithuanian Artists' Association Kaunas Division gallery "Drobė" invites you to a tour of the international contemporary porcelain exhibition "Translucens" with exhibition curator Remigijus Sederevičius. "Translucens" is an exhibition presenting the work of 25 artists from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, Poland, Turkey, and Italy, inviting a fresh look at porcelain – not only as a traditional ceramic material but also as a medium for contemporary artistic expression. In Latin, "Translucens" means "letting light through." This property of light and transparency becomes the starting point for the exhibition's artists, who explore how porcelain can speak about transparency, fragility, mystery, transformation, and revelation. During the tour, the exhibition curator will talk about the concept of the exposition, the artists' different approaches to the materiality of porcelain, and the relationship of the works to light and transparency. It will be possible to take a closer look at different porcelain technologies, forms, and artistic strategies through which this delicate material becomes the basis for sculpture, objects, or conceptual narratives. The "Translucens" exhibition is a kind of continuation of the tradition of porcelain symposiums held in Kaunas. It updates the city's porcelain history while presenting the work of today's artists and various international practices. The exposition brings together tradition and experiment, technological precision and fragility, the physical property of the material, and its metaphorical meanings. The tour is an opportunity not only to view the exhibition but also to hear how its idea was born, why porcelain became the main axis of the exhibition, and what different interpretations of "translucency" and light are offered by different creators.
