Renowned saxophonist Candy Dulfer to perform at Žalgiris Arena for the first time
As spring approaches, the Kaunas Jazz festival is already inviting you to make plans for winter. Today it is announced that, at the invitation of the festival, world-famous saxophonist Candy Dulfer and her band will hold a concert at the Kaunas Žalgiris Arena on December 14th.
Although the famous music star has visited Lithuania many times over the past few decades, this will be her first concert in Kaunas. Candy Dulfer will return to our country after a break of nearly ten years.
"Candy Dulfer has long been on our list of desired festival stars. We are delighted that she will shine in our program, symbolically crowning the 36th Kaunas Jazz season at the end of the year. The concert will be powerful – Candy is coming to Lithuania with a band of ten musicians," announce the organizers of Lithuania's largest jazz festival.
Tickets for the Candy Dulfer concert, as well as for other Kaunas Jazz events, are distributed by BILIETAI.LT.
A musician whose popularity in the world of jazz and funk is unmatched by any other saxophonist. This is how the Dutch star, who became famous across the globe back in 1989, is often introduced in music encyclopedias and magazine articles.
Born into a musical family (her father is saxophonist Hans Dulfer), Candy Dulfer has been playing since childhood; at twelve, she was already performing at the legendary North Sea Jazz Festival, and at fourteen, she formed her own band.
She experienced her first major career breakthrough at just 18, when the Queen of Pop, Madonna, invited her to open for her European tour concerts, and a year later, her talent captivated the singer Prince, who invited Candy to play with him and appear in his music video.
By the way, this musical friendship lasted for several decades – for example, in 2004, Candy performed on Prince's tour as a member of his band. "When I need a saxophone, I call Candy," said this legendary artist, who chose only the best musical partners.
In 1989, Candy Dulfer released a track that became a global sensation. The melody "Lily Was Here," recorded with Eurythmics member David A. Stewart, sounded like a romantic dance between guitar and saxophone. Recorded for the soundtrack of a Dutch film, the track climbed into the top 20 charts in Europe, Australia, and the United States, and is still frequently played on the radio today.
It is said that the piece was born as an improvisation at the end of a recording session and was not initially planned as part of the film – according to the musician's father, it was recorded on the first take, without any retakes.

The international success of the track encouraged Candy Dulfer to record her first album, playfully titled "Saxuality." Virtuoso playing, charisma, and stage charm almost instantly turned this musician into a big star – the 21-year-old saxophonist's album hit the charts in the US and Europe, sold over a million copies, and was nominated for a prestigious Grammy Award in the Best Contemporary Jazz Album category.
That same year, Candy Dulfer performed with the legendary British rock band Pink Floyd, and the list of her musical collaborators could go on for a long time. Among the musicians with whom this saxophonist has performed or recorded in the studio are Lionel Richie, Van Morrison, the band Tower Of Power, Sheila E., Maceo Parker, and many others.

In her native Netherlands, Candy Dulfer is also a television star, having hosted her own talk show with musicians and accepted an invitation to become a judge on the TV show "X Factor."
Her career continues successfully to this day – the musician's discography already includes twelve albums that blend jazz, funk, R&B, and expressive, instantly memorable melodies.
Candy Dulfer's records have sold over 2.5 million copies, and her performances are always characterized by energy and passion – every show by this musician turns into a true celebration of good emotions.

To date, the musician's latest album, "We Never Stop," was released in 2022 and once again proved her "weight" in the music world – one of the album's tracks was recorded with disco and funk legend, Chic band leader Nile Rodgers.
Candy Dulfer's concert will finish the star-studded Kaunas Jazz festival year with a bang. Most of the festival's concerts will take place in April. US singers Lady Blackbird and Judith Hill will hold performances in Kaunas – tickets for both of these concerts are already sold out, but at the request of the audience, Judith Hill will hold an additional performance in Vilnius.
Lithuanian jazz masters Dainius Pulauskas and Leonidas Šinkarenko will also perform for the Kaunas audience with their bands, rising Belgian jazz star Adja will perform, and legendary James Brown collaborator Martha High will embark on a tour across four Lithuanian cities.
More festival program participants will be revealed in the near future. You can follow all festival news on the website www.kaunasjazz.lt
