On August 22, the 31st Pažaislis Music Festival will once again invite listeners to Pažaislis Monastery, where the most beautiful melodies from Broadway musicals will ring out in its cozy courtyard.
The Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra and two soloists from the USA – Marnie Breckenridge (soprano) and Franco Pomponi (tenor) – will appear on stage. The joint team of performers will be conducted by the audience-favorite maestro Constantine Orbelian.
The concert program is a musical journey through different eras of Broadway history. Songs from the so-called Golden Age of musicals (1940–1960), works from the mega-musical period (1970–1990), and contemporary Broadway hits will be performed. The audience will hear music from legendary musicals such as The Sound of Music, West Side Story, Evita, Chicago, The Lion King, The Phantom of the Opera, Frozen, and other works beloved by stage and cinema audiences.
Marnie Breckenridge is a singer and actress distinguished by her sensitive interpretation, lyrical voice, and strong stage acting. She has created roles in world opera premieres, actively collaborates with contemporary composers, and is valued for her musical versatility.
Franco Pomponi is praised by critics for his rich, warm, and expressive voice and a keen sense of drama. His performances in prestigious opera houses and concert halls are characterized by stylistic precision and an exceptional culture of musical phrasing.
"Broadway Night at Pažaislis" is a summer evening at Pažaislis Monastery, where the music of Broadway musicals and the historical setting will create an unforgettable musical celebration for the listeners.
