Growing Obelynė 2026

On Saturday, September 26, the now-traditional event "Growing Obelynė 2026" returns to the Prof. Tadas Ivanauskas Obelynė Homestead-Memorial Museum. This is a celebration born from a local community initiative during the "Kaunas and Kaunas District – European Capital of Culture 2022" project, which has since become a traditional festival of the Obelynė homestead. PROGRAM: 11:00 AM Heritage orchard apple tasting "Choose the Apple King" (Simonas Stašaitis). 12:00 PM Meeting at Obelynė. Presentation of the "Creative Community" exhibition, community tea tasting, and the most delicious apple pie contest. 1:00 PM Lecture "The Orchard in Modern Landscape Design" (garden expert, host of the LRT show "Gardener's Calendar" Tautvydas Gurskas). 2:00 PM VDU AA theater "Jovaras" play "My Love – Obelynė" (director Mindaugas Gargasas). 3:00 PM What to do to ensure a sapling brought home takes root and provides a bountiful harvest? (Dr. Kęstutis Malinauskas). 3:30 PM "Growing Obelynė 2024" – a donation campaign for apple saplings grafted from the heritage orchard. The event is free. The event is funded by the Kaunas District Municipality's Contemporary Elderships project "Obelynė – Creative Community Laboratories". Photography and filming may take place during the event.
